Lincoln Memorial laying off 13 faculty members

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Lincoln Memorial University is cutting 13 faculty positions at its extended learning center in Knoxville. One of those laid off has taught there for 18 years.
According to the Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/ZmDAr9 ), the education dean met individually with the faculty members on Thursday, telling them declining enrollment by graduate students was the reason for the layoffs.
Faculty at Lincoln Memorial are not tenured and receive yearly teaching contracts.
The main campus is in Harrogate and Lincoln Memorial has remote learning centers in Knoxville, Alcoa, Cleveland, Ducktown, Kingsport, Morristown and Sevierville in Tennessee. There are also centers in Middlesboro and Corbin in Kentucky.
