Police say woman passed stolen checks at stores

A Johnson City woman was arrested Thursday following an investigation into stolen checks that were passed at two branches of a local business, according to police press release.
According to the release, Julia M. Bittinger, 1402 E. Watauga Ave., was charged after she allegedly passed stolen checks at Food City locations at 2120 S. Roan St. and N. 509 State of Franklin Road.
The checks were passed on Jan. 24 and 25 and police said Bittinger was recorded on store surveillance and identified as the person making the transactions.
She was taken to Washington County Detention Center and was being held on $14,000 bond.
Bittinger is scheduled to appear in Sessions Court today for her arraignment.
