2 brothers charged in Jonesborough auto burglary investigation

Two brothers have been charged in a series of auto burglaries in Jonesborough around Tenn. Highway 81 North.

Dennis W. Harvey, 24, 116 Heritage Lane, Jonesborough and Matthew R. Harvey, 22, 1603 Burgie St., Elizabethton, were arrested Wednesday after deputies encountered them during an investigation into burglaries in the 200 block of the highway, Sheriff Ed Graybeal announced in a news release.

After further investigation and with assistance from Jonesborough police, deputies learned that the Harvey brothers were responsible for numerous burglaries in that area, Graybeal said.

Matthew R. Harvey was arrested at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday and was charged with seven auto burglaries and burglarizing an out building. He was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $80,000 bond.

Dennis W. Harvey was arrested at 5 p.m. Wednesday and was charged with possession of stolen property and violation of probation. He was held in the Detention Center without bond.

Both were scheduled to be arraigned today in Sessions Court.
