A West Walnut Street stabbing led Johnson City police to arrest a 51-year-old man on an assault charge late Wednesday.

Curtis Lee Wise, 116 West Walnut St., was arrested after police were called to his residence around 11 p.m. This location is known as Mana House.

The victim, identified in a police report as Shaun Anthony Sturgill, 45, was taken by ambulance to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening stab wounds, police said in a news release. Sturgill’s address was listed as the Mana House in a court document.

Police said Wise and the victim had been in a heated argument that escalated and ended with the stabbing.

A court document indicated Sturgill and Wise were on the porch when Wise started talking about killing judges and cops. Sturgill reportedly told him to “shut up” and that he did not want to hear that.

Wise became angry and pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed Sturgill in the head, according to the court document.

Sturgill reportedly had several cuts to the back of his skull. When police arrived they noted several of Sturgill’s friends were holding a cloth to the back of his head to stop the bleeding, according to the police report.

When police arrived, Wise told them, “I stabbed him to get him away from me,” according to the report.

Police searched Wise and found several knives in his front pockets, including a knife with blood on the blade.

Police said in the court document that Wise admitted to stabbing Sturgill.

Charged with aggravated assault, Wise was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance Thursday.
