A Greeneville man was arrested Tuesday on vandalism charges on a construction site, according to a police news release.

According to the release, a project manager for the construction site at 3130 Rocky Top Road observed smoke coming from inside a building, went inside and found Tommy F. Griffin, 47, 131 Mason St., 1-E, passed out beside an extinguished fire on the floor.

Police said there was a burnt place on the floor where the fire had been and the victim told police of a broken window on the building.

Griffin told police he was homeless. Damage to the building was valued at more than $5,000.

Griffin was charged with felony vandalism and trespassing and was taken to the Carter County Detention Center.

He was being held on $4,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Carter County Sessions Court on Feb. 4 for a preliminary hearing.
