A Unicoi County woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday along Highway 107 in the Limestone Cove area.

Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley said Thursday evening the accident happened between Limestone Cove Park and Lower Stone Mountain Road.

According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report, the driver was identified as Betty A. Johnson, 73. She was a resident of Unicoi.

According to the THP report, Johnson ran off the right side of 107 into a ditch. She overcorrected and the car flipped when it got back on the road, landing on its top.

It was not known what caused Johnson to veer off the road.

Hensley said the highway was shut down for a period of time and traffic was diverted on Scioto Road and Simerly Creek Road.

Officials with the THP and Unicoi County Sheriff’s Department were assisted at the scene by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office, the Limestone Cove Fire Department and the Unicoi Volunteer Fire Department.
