Update: Firefighters battle house fire in Fall Branch
Jan 3, 2013 at 2:42 PM
A Fall Branch man lost his home and everything in it Thursday morning when flames destroyed his Cherry Lane home.
Fall Branch Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Troy Hood said the fire at 198 Cherry Lane was first reported as a brush fire just after 10 a.m. Thursday. But when the first firefighters arrived, flames were coming from windows and smoke was billowing high into the sky.
“It is a total loss,” Hood said of the home.
Hood did not know the cause of the fire or exactly where in the house it began but an investigation will be conducted.
By 11:30 a.m. the fire was under control, but firefighters remained on scene for a few hours to extinguish hot spots.
Micky Davis lived in the home, according to his lifelong friend Bryan Haren.
Haren and Davis left around 8 a.m. Thursday to run some errands. They noticed from Interstate 81 while returning the smoke rising from the area of Davis’ home.
Haren at first did not think Davis’ home was in flames but as they got closer it became apparent the home was burning.
“When we got here there was fire already coming out of every window,” Haren said. “And from the time we got here it didn’t seem like it took five minutes and it was just ‘boom,’ it was real bad.”
Smoke could still be seen rising from the home by 11:30 a.m. from all around the Fall Branch community.
Four volunteer fire departments responded and around 40 firefighters and emergency personnel were at the fire.
No one was hurt.
Haren said he and Davis are best friends and have known each other all their lives. Haren said he would offer Davis help while he dealt with the aftermath of the fire.
