Update: Bristol toddler found, father arrested

BRISTOL — Police found a toddler whose disappearance prompted an endangered child alert on Monday and arrested his father on a custodial interference charge.

Police said Tayler James Smith took his 1-year-old son, Dakota, on Saturday. Police found the man and his son at a residence off Tenn. Highway 394.

Found safe and unharmed, the child was returned to his mother.

The boy’s mother last had contact with Smith around 1 a.m. Monday when he sent a text message saying he was not returning with Dakota.

BRISTOL — Bristol police are looking for a man who took his son to see relatives, but never returned the boy to his mother.

Police said Tayler James Smith took his 1-year-old son, Dakota, on Saturday. They may be traveling in a blue 1991 Acura, tag number 854 GSF and “747” stickers on the windows.

The boy’s mother last had contact with Smith around 1 a.m. Monday when he sent a text message saying he was not returning with Dakota.

Smith, 22, is a white male with brown eyes and brown hair. He’s 5’11” tall and weighs approximately 125 pounds. Dakota is a white male with red hair and brown eyes. He’s 3’ tall and weighs 27 pounds.

Anyone with information about Smith’s whereabouts is urged to contact Bristol, Tenn. police at 989-5600 or 989-5529.

Police have obtained a custodial interference for Smith’s arrest.
