KINGSPORT — A Mount Carmel woman faces multiple charges after allegedly stealing clothing from the Kingsport mall, then crashing her car and two children — including an infant — into a tree while attempting to flee.
Melissa A. Nowlin, 27, of 445 Cypress St., was arrested in the Wednesday night incident at the Kingsport Town Center. She is charged with felony shoplifting, child abuse or neglect, reckless endangerment, false reporting of an accident, violation of child restraint laws and failure to comply with financial responsibility.
Kingsport Police Office Dale Farmer says a warrant has also been obtained for her boyfriend, who reportedly ran from the crash scene and was not immediately apprehended.
