Drug charges placed after traffic stop

An Erwin man was arrested Monday following a traffic stop that was conducted because he ran a red light and almost hit a police cruiser, according to a Johnson City Police news release.
According to the release, Cody L. Duncan, 20, 214 Dry Branch Road, was stopped by police for running the light and officers said during the stop that they smelled a strong odor that appeared to be marijuana coming from his vehicle.
Duncan consented to a search of the vehicle and police located 158 grams of a substance that appeared to be marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
He was charged with possession of schedule VI drugs for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to exercise due care and a red light violation.
Duncan was taken to Washington County Detention Center and was being held on $11,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in Sessions Court today at 1:30 p.m.
