Police: Medical problem may have led to fatal Johnson City crash

Staff reports • Dec 21, 2012 at 8:08 AM

A Gray man died in a single-vehicle crash on Carroll Creek Road in Johnson City Thursday night.

According to a Johnson City police news release, James L. Bonsor, 65, 168 Maden Dr., Gray, was driving his pickup truck south on Carroll Creek just after 9 p.m. Thursday when the vehicle gradually began to veer off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

A witness to the crash said Bonsor’s truck was traveling at the posted speed limit when it crashed.

Police said Bonsor did not apply brakes or steer the vehicle to avoid the collision, leading to the conclusion that he may have suffered a medical problem before the crash.

Bonsor was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
