More burglary charges have been placed against a man a Johnson City police dog tracked to his apartment after a vehicle burglary in a nearby neighborhood earlier this week.
Police added eight counts of auto burglary and eight counts of theft under $500 to the previous charges against Christopher M. Forbes, 21, 3 Mel Circle, stemming from burglaries Sunday and Monday in the Oak Park neighborhood.
Police were called to Fairway Drive around 5:30 a.m. Monday after a victim saw Forbes breaking into his vehicle and chased Forbes through his back yard, police said.
K-9 Marko tracked Forbes to his front door in Tyler Apartments a few blocks away. Police found Forbes inside his apartment with a backpack containing items stolen from that victim’s vehicle, as well as others. Forbes had more than $100 in loose change stolen from vehicles' ashtrays and consoles, police said.
Forbes was initial charged with one count of auto burglary. Owners of other vehicles also reported that change had been stolen from their vehicles, resulting in the new charges, police said.
Forbes was held on $88,000 bond in the Washington County Detention Center. He was arraigned on the new charges Wednesday.
