An Elizabethton woman was arrested Tuesday on accusations that she tried to return stolen merchandise to a Johnson City outdoors retail store to get cash and lied to police about it.
Willie Jo Whitson, 42, 611 Willow St., Elizabethton, was arrested following the incident at Mahoney's, 830 Sunset Drive.
Police said Whitson took stolen property into the store and tried to return it for money. She then gave police false information about where she had received the property.
Charged with a false report and possession of stolen property under $500, she was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and later released on $10,000 bond. Arraignment was set for today in Sessions Court.
