JCPD: Police dog tracked burglar to nearby apartment

A police dog tracked a man to an east Johnson City housing complex Monday after he broke into car parked in a nearby neighborhood, police said in a news release.
Christopher M. Forbes, 21, 3 Mel Circle, Apt. 5, had items stolen from the vehicle and others when police arrived his apartment, police said.
Police were called to Fairway Drive around 5:30 a.m. Monday after the victim saw Forbes breaking into his vehicle and chased Forbes through his back yard.
K-9 Marko tracked Forbes to his front door in Tyler Apartments a few blocks away. Police found Forbes inside his apartment with a backpack containing items stolen from the victim’s vehicle and others. Forbes had more than $100 in loose change stolen from vehicles' ashtrays and consoles, police said.
Charged with auto burglary, Forbes was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance this morning.
