Charges against three dropped in January shooting in Johnson City

Attempted murder, assault and felony reckless endangerment charges against three men in what prosecutors believe was a gang-related shooting were dismissed and expunged from their records.

“The bottom line was we had no witness to put on,” Assistant District Attorney General Ken Baldwin said.

The shooting occurred in January in the parking lot of Buccaneer Drive apartments.

Police arrested Imran Ahmed, 23, Courtlund Henderson, 22, and Aaron Williams, 20, all of Johnson City at the time, on two counts of attempted murder and four counts of reckless endangerment.

Dominique Robert Greenlee, 19, Johnson City, was taken to the emergency room by a relative after a bullet went through his rear passenger side door and hit him. He was treated at a local hospital that night and released.

The three charged in the incident were eventually indicted on two counts of attempted first-degree murder, four counts of felony reckless endangerment and two counts of aggravated assault.

But all that went away in a Washington County courtroom Wednesday.

“When it occurred, the victim had some difficulty about who did the shooting,” Baldwin said. “A person with him picked these defendants out of a photo lineup and said they were the ones who did the shooting and described their car.”

At some point, the victim and his friend went to attorney Tom Jessee’s office and filled out sworn affidavits that said the person who shot the victim was definitely not the defendants and they didn’t see the car previously described.

“This was a thing between rival gangs and apparently they decided they were not going to testify against one another,” Baldwin said.

Amed and Henderson did plead guilty to simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Those charges were placed after police developed the men as suspects. When officers searched their residence they found drugs and drug-related items.
