Memorial Park Community Center opens Saturday

The new 67,000-square-foot Memorial Park Community Center will open Saturday at its location at 510 Bert St.

The $15 million center will feature both indoor and outdoor activities for the community to enjoy, including aquatics, two full basketball courts, exercise areas, a performing arts room and a media center.

Community residents are invited to festivities Saturday, as the center will open its doors at 9 a.m.

Grand opening festivities include:


- 6-8 p.m. — Art Exhibit and Reception.


- 9-10:30 a.m. — Breakfast with Santa.

- 9 a.m. — Tours of the facility begin.

- 9:30 a.m. — Science Hill Chamber Choir will perform.

- 10-11 a.m. — Whiskey Sticks Band.

- 10 a.m.-1 p.m. — Overview of facility programs.

- 11 a.m. — Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with the Science Hill ROTC conducting the flag ceremony.

- 11:30 a.m. — Refreshments from Chef Richard Erskine of Southeast Culinary & Hospitality College.

- 11:30-12:15 p.m. — Dani Messamore and Tri-Cities Talent will perform.

- 12:15-1 p.m. — Indian Trail Chorus will perform.
