U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais foils upset bid

Voters in the 4th Congressional District shrugged off a sex scandal and gave U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais a second term.

DesJarlais defeated state Sen. Eric Stewart, D-Belvidere, by a double-digit margin, nearly matching his upset win two years ago. Stewart conceded the race at 11:30 p.m., with about half of the results finalized in Rutherford County, where tallies were delayed by an election night snafu.

“The voters have spoken. I’m proud of the campaign we ran,” he said.
