Jonesborough woman sentenced on drug fraud charge

GREENEVILLE — A Jonesborough woman received a three-year probation sentence in U.S. District Coutrt on Wednesday having pleaded guilty to drug fraud.
Sharon Minns Kyker, 51, had been employed as a registered nurse at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, since 1991. In February 2009, Kyker was found to have diverted a quantity of hydromorphone by falsely documenting that she had provided a dose to a patient. After the misconduct was discovered, she resigned from her position, according to a U.S. Attorney's Office news release.
Kyker pleaded guilty in April to obtaining controlled substances by fraud, deception and subterfuge.
During her probation, Kyker will be required to participate in mental health and substance abuse treatment. She is prohibited from holding employment involving access to patient medications and must perform 50 hours of community service.
