A Johnson City man and woman were charged in a shoplifting/robbery incident at a store Tuesday morning, with the man allegedly choking the manager and taking her cell phone.
Johnson City police said a man and woman were at Family Dollar, 2516 South Roan St., around 10 a.m. Tuesday when the woman walked out of the store with bag full of merchandise, according to a police report.
The manager said the woman walked in with this bag and it was empty.
The woman was confronted outside the store by the manager, who tried to call 911 from her cell phone when the man reportedly choked her from behind “until she thought she would pass out,” according to a news release.
The man then stole her phone and fled with the woman in a vehicle.
Police stopped this vehicle and charged Sergio Ivan Navarro, 25, 337 Old Milligan Highway, Apt. 9, with one count of robbery.
Brandy K. Nave, 24, 2717 South Roan St., Lot 29, was charged with being an accessory after the fact and theft.
Navarro was being held on $50,000 bond. Nave was being held on $25,000 bond.
The two were scheduled to appear in Sessions Court today.
