ELIZABETHTON — A man who was attempting to co-sign a loan for his daughter last week experienced a shock when a credit check revealed someone had stolen his identity and used it to run up more than $130,000 in debts.
James Case reported the identity theft to the Carter County Sheriff's Department last week. He said the debts included $129,175 for the purchase of land in Oklahoma and $9,088 for the purchase of a car in Memphis.
