Vehicle’s open trunk leads to man’s arrest

A Johnson City man was arrested Saturday for simple possession after officers stopped him for traveling with the trunk of his vehicle open, according to a police news release.

According to the release, when police stopped the vehicle at Lee Circle and University Parkway the officer could smell marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle. When questioned, Tyler S. Edwards, 19, 907 Antioch Road, Apt. 30, admitted to having illegal narcotics on his person.

Edwards had a plastic bag with what appeared to be marijuana and approximately four grams of mushrooms, a schedule I drug. Officers also located two pipes used to smoke marijuana and a glass contained with residue inside it in the vehicle.

Edwards was charged with possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia, simple possession of a schedule I drug and simple possession of a schedule VI drug.

He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and was being held on $3,000 bond. Edwards is scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on Monday at 9 a.m.
