ELIZABETHTON — A city man said he might have been sleepwalking when he entered his neighbor's apartment in the nude on Wednesday evening.
Steven Craig Seals, 48, 109 W. G St., was arrested by Officer Sarah Ellison of the Elizabethton Police Department on a charge of aggravated burglary.
The investigation of the incident began with Ellison going to talk to the resident of the invaded apartment. Ellison said the woman is pregnant and was visibly upset by the incident.
Ellison said the woman told her she was sitting in her apartment at 10:45 p.m. with her 16-year-old brother when her neighbor walked through an unlocked front door. She said he was nude. She said upon entering, Seals kicked her brother in the leg, then assumed a defensive stance before leaving through the same door he entered.
After talking to the woman, Ellison went to Seals' residence. She said he told her he was unsure of what happened and reasoned he was sleepwalking.
Ellison said Seals admitted to drinking alcohol during the night, but she said his level of consumption did not appear to be a factor in his behavior. She said he was taking no prescription medicine or illegal drugs. Other than some heart problems, he said he had no other medical problems and no recollection of any similar experience. She said he appeared calm and collected.
Ellison said he recalled becoming aware that he was inside another residence, and seeing another male, he became aware the 16-year-old was going to assault him. He recalled taking a defensive stance just prior to leaving the apartment.
Seals was transported to Sycamore Shoals Hospital for a medical evaluation. He said no medical imbalance was discovered and he was released from the hospital.
Ellison was once again dispatched to the apartments at 1 a.m. Seals said when he returned home an unknown man confronted him about the earlier incident. Seals said he felt threatened.
Ellison also talked to the woman again and gathered more information. She then arrested Seals on the aggravated burglary charge.
Seals is scheduled to answer the charge in Sessions Court on Dec. 18.
