Staff reports • Oct 1, 2012 at 9:23 AM

MOUNTAIN CITY — A Northeast Correctional Complex prisoner who walked away from a work detail on Tuesday is back in custody.

Tennessee Department of Corrections spokeswoman Dorinda Carter said the department’s Office of Investigations and Compliance tracked Grady Edwards, 36, to a location in Wilmington, N.C.

Edwards was apprehended with assistance from the Wilmington Police Department and the Green County, N.C. Sheriff’s Department. Carter reported Edward’s wife, Julia Edwards, and son, Kevin Roberson, were also taken into custody and charged with being accomplices in the escape.

Edwards was located at a shopping mall and was taken to the local jail pending extradition back to Tennessee, where he will face escape charges.

Edwards was serving a six year sentence on convictions of burglary other than a habitation and theft over $1,000. He would have been eligible for parole in 2013. He is now facing up to an additional six years on the escape charge.
