ERWIN — Jete Edmisson, who was previously hired by the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Board of Control to serve as the hospital’s interim consultant CEO, will serve in his current capacity at the hospital until further notice.

At a called meeting held Tuesday, members of the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Board of Control present unanimously voted to extend Edmisson’s contract to serve as the hospital’s interim consultant CEO.

This marks the second time Edmisson’s contract has been extended by the board. At a called meeting held early last month, the board voted to extend the contract of Edmisson, who was hired by the board in early July, for 30 days.

On Monday, board member Dr. Frank Wegman suggested the board make Edmisson’s contract continuous. Per Wegman’s motion, Edmisson would be give a two-week notice by the board when a permanent CEO is found for the hospital. This was the motion accepted by the board.

“I’m enjoying being here, and I’m really thrilled to get an opportunity to continue to work with all these great people,” Edmisson said following Tuesday’s meeting. “I’m just looking forward a month or two, or whatever.”

Edmisson, a senior advisor with Spectrum Health Partners, was originally hired for a 30-day period on July 9 at a called meeting of the hospital’s board, the same meeting at which the board accepted the resignation of former CEO Jim Pate. That same evening, the board voted to hire Spectrum Health Partners to conduct a review of the hospital’s operation. The hiring of a consulting firm was a stipulation of a May agreement between the hospital and town of Erwin that saw the town loan the hospital $800,000.

Board of Control Chairman Glenn Tilson said Monday that Spectrum’s review is ongoing and there is no update of the board’s search for a permanent CEO at this time.
