‘Give from your heart’ to help area United Way

The official start of United Way of Washington County’s annual fundraising campaign is Aug. 16, but a number of “pace-setter” companies — including the Johnson City Press — already have begun their in-house fundraising drives.
The theme of this year’s $1.7 million campaign is “Give from your heart,” and we sincerely hope that is what you will do. On Tuesday, the Press will publish a special six-page section with photographs and stories from each of the 17 service agencies the United Way supports and about the people who are helped by these agencies.
The Press will also host a community yard sale Saturday to raise money for the United Way. The yard sale will begin at 8 a.m. in the parking lot located directly in the front of the newspaper’s offices at 204 W. Main St.
Because you are reading this editorial, it’s a good bet you are already a faithful contributor to United Way. As we’ve noted in this space before, we know regular readers of this page are people who care deeply about their community. We urge you to encourage a family member, friend or coworker to follow your lead and make a contribution of their own to United Way.
