Mac enthusiasts won’t have far to go to find the latest Apple device, beginning Saturday when MacAuthority opens its first location in East Tennessee at The Mall of Johnson City.

The store will be located in the upper level of the mall next to JCPenney.

“The combination of brands in The Mall at Johnson City play well against the life-enriching and cutting-edge merchandise we offer. We’re a regional business, but we represent the hottest worldwide brand in tech,” MacAuthority Marketing Director Lucas Leverett said. “We bring a flexible local store carrying Apple products to an already top-notch mall.”

Marsha Hammond, marketing director for The Mall at Johnson City, said MacAuthority will not only be a good merchant in the mall but it will also serve the community’s Apple-related needs.

“It will definitely serve the demographics that we have here and fits that need. It’s something that our merchant base had been lacking and now we’re excited to provide it to our shoppers,” she said.

The Nashville-based retailer is an authorized Apple Specialist, meaning they will offer everything from the ever-popular iPod and iPad to Mac’s full line of desktop computers. The store also specializes in Apple service, maintenance and support. iPhones are not sold through the retailer.

MacAuthority’s new location will bring about 25 to 30 new jobs to Johnson City, Leverett said.

As the largest Apple Specialist in the Southeast, Leverett said MacAuthority thrives in markets that emphasize strong local and regional stores over large national chains.

“We do really well in areas where we can understand the community and the market better than a national store, like an Apple Store, would in places that we’ve identified as being under-served by Apple. This is one of those communities...where we can do well doing something that we know the community is interested in and we can do it in a way that’s practical for folks that live there,” he said.

MacAuthority will open its doors Saturday at 10 a.m.

The first 100 visitors will receive a limited edition T-shirt. The store will also conduct drawings for a MacBook Air, iPad, iPod shuffles and merchandise from Griffin Technology and MacAuthority’s house-brand 4mac.

To register for prizes, visit MacAuthority.com to get a four-digit PIN that can be redeemed from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to MacAuthority’s arrival, the mall will also see The Children’s Place open its doors July 28.

The popular chain is the largest pure-play children’s specialty apparel retailer in North America. As of January, the company owned and operated more than 1,000 locations.

During the store’s grand opening, the first 200 customers to make a purchase of $50 or more will receive a Place Play Pack, a limited edition backpack filled with activities.

Both MacAuthority and The Children’s Place will be participating in the annual Sales Tax Holiday Aug. 3-5.
