Cars, tours and family fun for all ages will be plentiful at the Carter County Car Club’s 4th Annual Borla Summer Spectacular happening Friday and Saturday in Johnson City.
Gates for the two-day event will open to the public at 9 a.m. and will feature cars of every make and model.
“Any type of vehicle is welcome. We have some as old as 1930s and 1940s vehicles, as well as we’ll have some 2013 Corvette’s that are going to be there,” Tracie Percell, executive assistant and event coordinator for Borla Performance Industries said.
Last year, she said they had approximately 500 cars show at the event. People interested in showing their cars at the event can register at the event for $30.
“It is a non-profit event,” Percell said. “All of the money goes back to children’s charity.”
Percell said the show is also a time for people in the community to familiarize themselves with Borla industries.
“It’s very special to us because we have it at Borla as our open house event also,” she said.
Car shows attendants are allowed to tour the facility and see how they manufacture the exhaust systems that are made locally in Johnson City.
Local vendors will be set up around the facility, as well as Roy Hill Racing and Richard Petty Enterprises, who will have show cars on display along with representatives to host demonstrations.
Jerry Pierce and the Night Life Band and the Full Tilt band will perform for people at the car show.
“There will be raffles, there will be door prizes, there’s giveaways,” Percell said. “ETSU (East Tennessee State University) will actually be out there and have kind of a like a kid’s area set up. There’s food, obviously, all day long. Every type of carnival food that you can ask for is there.”
Dave Bowman from MotorHead Garage TV will also be signing autographs at the event.
According to their website, the Carter County Car Club sponsors a Cruise-In in downtown Elizabethton every Saturday from April-October from 5-9:30 p.m. This event will also host a Cruise-In on Saturday at Borla, starting at 5 p.m.
Borla is located off of the Okolona Road exit 27 on Interstate 26, at 500 Borla Drive.
Percell said she hopes people come out to the event and stay for awhile to explore the facility, as well as the cars.
“It’s just a community-minded event. It’s a great way to come and enjoy the day with your family,” she said. “You get to see some of the vehicles that are showcased around here. We bring them all together in one location and you can just spend the day and enjoy the day.”
