A Carter County native will now lead the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Fall Branch district after his promotion Monday, according to the Tennessee Department of Safety.

Lt. Stephen M. Street, who will take the rank of captain next week, began his law enforcement career as a dispatcher for the Carter County Sheriff’s Office prior to becoming a state trooper in 1996.

Street’s previous assignment was as the administrative lieutenant since 2010 to Capt. Danny Talley, who was promoted to major of the administrative bureau in Nashville.

The promotions — Street to captain and Talley to major — take effect July 1.

Prior to becoming administrative lieutenant in Fall Branch, Street held positions as Special Programs lieutenant over the Fall Branch District and troop lieutenant in Sullivan County. He has also served as patrol sergeant in both Carter and Sullivan Counties.

During his THP career, Street has received several honors, including Trooper of the Year honors in Troop B and Troop C in the Fall Branch District in 1998 and 2000, respectively.

He also brings extensive specialized training to his new role as Captain of the 13-county Fall Branch District.

Street graduated with a criminal justice degree from East Tennessee State University.

At the THP, Street has instructed field training officers, taught management training for supervisors and was a D.A.R.E. instructor. Street is also trained as a child restraint device technician, in advanced accident investigation and as a radar instructor.

“During his career, Stephen has demonstrated extensive administrative knowledge of the Fall Branch District, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and its core mission,” THP Col. Tracy Trott said.

“I am confident that his experience and varied backgrounds will be a tremendous asset to our agency, and his leadership will maintain the level of professionalism garnered throughout the Fall Branch District.”

Street will attend the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command School in July.
