Almost pool time!
If you’ve been craving some fun in the sun, a trip to the pool could be the perfect solution.
The pool at the Legion Recreation Center, 111 Legion St., will open to the public starting Memorial Day.
Sam Miller, the aquatics center supervisor, said the staff have worked hard to finish up pool preparations and repairs.
“They painted the entire pool over the past few weeks and they’ve done a lot of repairs on the tile around the entire pool,” Miller said. “They’ve actually done some maintenance on the slide, just to make sure it’s nice and safe for the summer season.”
Another repair completed was for the baby pool, putting a three-inch cap of concrete around its perimeter.
“It has an entire new deck surface around the pool. It’ll look nicer and be safer for people this year,” he said.
Miller said they do expect a big crowd on Memorial Day and 10 new lifeguards have been hired for this year’s pool staff.
“We’ve been working really hard getting everyone certified through our American Red Cross lifeguarding courses,” he said. “I’ll be having an orientation this week to get all the new guards familiar with all of our facilities and emergency action plans and hand out uniforms.”
The Legion Street pool hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1-6 p.m.
Miller said they also offer birthday pool parties Monday through Saturday from 6-8 p.m. for a fee of $95. For those interested in holding a party at the facility, call the recreation center at 461-4850 to sign up.
Another water related getaway for the day is Wetlands Water Park, 123 Boone St., Jonesborough.
Wetlands will open to the public on Saturday. Its hours of operation will be from Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 6 p.m.
The Wetlands facility features water activities, including three flume slides, water bubblers, tumble buckets, a lazy river, a wading area and a children’s otter slide.
