An Interstate 26 traffic stop led Johnson City police Wednesday to find a loaded gun, resulting in a Kingsport man's arrest.
Leonte A.Ward, 27, 237 Fontana St., Kingsport, was stopped for speeding on I-26, police said in a news release.
A convicted felon, Ward was driving on a revoked license, and police found a loaded handgun in his possession.
About 10:15 p.m., police spotted Ward's BMW going 76 mph in a 55 mph zone and pulled him over, according to a report.
A records check indicated Ward's license had been revoked and he had been charged with fleeing from law enforcement and reckless endangerment in 2008. He also had been convicted of a felony involving the use of force or violence, police said in the report.
Police found a 9 mm handgun near the car's console.
Ward was charged with driving on a revoked license and unlawful weapon possession by a convicted felon.
He was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $11,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance this morning.
