Hawkins County 'domestic situation' ends with suspect being shot dead by Kingsport police

KINGSPORT — City police early Saturday morning shot and killed a man who had reportedly been involved in a “domestic situation” with shots fired in neighboring Hawkins County.

However, as of Saturday night authorities had not yet identified the man, and no information was available on the domestic situation that occurred before the shooting death.

The man drove into Kingsport, was stopped by police and about 30 minutes later pointed a handgun at police before officers fatally shot him at about 1:14 a.m., according to information from police in a news release. His identity was being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
