Sullivan, Kingsport win $1.5 million grant for new school

NASHVILLE — Sullivan County and Kingsport have won a two-year $1.5 million grant for a STEM platform school, Gov. Bill Haslam and Commissioner of Education Kevin Huffman announced Monday morning.
The Northeast STEM platform school, to be a grades 6-8 school in the Brookside Elementary School building, is to receive $1 million, while the hub, East Tennessee State University, is to get $500,000.
The science, technology, engineering and math grants also were won by proposals in Hamilton and Putnam counties.
