ELIZABETHTON — Carter County has a new address on the Internet for people who may be planning a vacation in the area.

The Elizabethton/Carter County Tourism Council launched its new website last Friday. The site is located at http://www.tourcartercounty.com.

Annika Hampton, tourism coordinator for Carter County Tomorrow, said the purpose of redesigning the website was to achieve a more simplified look and to increase ease and navigation of the site. Another reason for the new page is to implement an interactive website for visitors to find information based on their needs.

The new site became active just in time for the annual influx of visitors to the spring race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The site emphasizes all of the outdoor activities the county has to offer, including hiking and fishing, with some of the best fishing spots and most scenic hiking trails in the county.

There is also a section on the site for festivals, events and attractions, including Roan Mountain State Park and Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area, the Covered Bridge and the Carter Mansion. The section also lists several annual events.

Another section of the site features the places where visitors can find lodging, including motels, bed and breakfasts and an extensive list of rental cabins, campgrounds and recreational vehicle parks. The listings include telephone numbers and links to the website of each one.

Finally, there is a calendar of upcoming events.

The Carter County Tourism Development Council’s primary objective is to promote tourism and attract visitors to Carter County by planning, marketing and publicizing leisure activities in the region.
