Kingsport officials consider bridge over sliding section of Bays Mountain Road

KINGSPORT — Kingsport is looking to construct a bridge along a 150-foot section of Bays Mountain Road that has been slowly sliding down the mountain for years and last fall had to be cordoned off due to safety concerns.

The cost of the project is estimated to be $300,000, and no determination has been made on how long Bays Mountain Park would be closed during the construction of the bridge.

The problem with Bays Mountain Road has been due to underground water flowing across the top of the rock underneath the road, which compromises the soil and causes it to slide down the mountain.
