Car dealer burglarized of checks worth $20K-plus

Johnson City police were investigating the burglary of tens of thousands of dollars in checks from a local car dealership.

Police were called to Grindstaff Kia, 3608 Bristol Hwy., around 8 a.m. Monday and told that sometime between 4 p.m. Saturday and the time of the report, an office safe had been burglarized of a bank deposit bag that had checks and cash, according to a police report.

According to the report, the stolen checks were valued at $28,420. Police said $767 cash was stolen.
