KINGSPORT — A Kingsport man accused of stealing a large quantity of scrap metal from a Hawkins County residence allegedly stated he needed money to take his child to the hospital.
Tuesday afternoon, Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Josh Byrd was dispatched to 503 Sensabaugh Hollow Road in an unincorporated section of Hawkins County near Kingsport on a complaint of the theft earlier that day of a metal crate on wheels, steel pipe, steel mesh screens, two rolls of electrical wire, a propane tank, and a floor jack.
A witness spotted a Silver Ford at the residence when those items were removed, and that witness took down a license plate number.
