Meth-making bottle found in Roan Mountain

Staff Report • Mar 7, 2012 at 11:17 AM

ROAN MOUNTAIN — A component of a methamphetamine manufacturing process was found lying beside Bluegrass Road over the weekend.

A resident was taking a walk on the road on Saturday afternoon when she came across a “suspicious bottle.” Officers of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department responded and saw it was a 20-ounce green plastic bottle with a 12-inch tube coming from the lead. The bottle contained a white powdery substance.

Based on their experience with meth labs, the deputies said the bottle was used as a gas generator for a “shake and bake” method of manufacturing methamphetamine.

Roland James of the Tennessee Methamphetamine Task Force was called to the scene and, assisted by the deputies, neutralized the contents of the bottle. Jones then transported the bottle and the contents to a safe location for destruction.
