KINGSPORT — Kingsport Mayor Dennis Phillips wants the city attorney to take immediate action to declare the Ultimate Smoke shop a public nuisance, and if not, for the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to retain outside legal counsel to begin the process anyway.
Phillips made the request to City Manager John Campbell in an e-mail Sunday asking for the matter to be an action item on the BMA’s agenda at its next regular meeting March 6. The action item is to include authorization to hire outside legal counsel by the BMA if City Attorney Mike Billingsley believes he is unable to take immediate action against the Ultimate Smoke shop.
“I want it shut down because they’re not going to shut it down on their own,” Phillips said. “I’m tired of looking in the paper and the obituaries of all these kids in there and the hospitals having to give, in most cases, free treatment (to those using synthetic drugs).”
