HAMPTON — There was a lot of excitement in the restroom of the Roadrunner convenience store, 4953 Highway 19E, over the weekend when a customer’s gun accidentally went off. No one was injured.
Deputy Brian Smithpeters of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department responded to incident. He talked with the customer, Keith Allen Altman, Fall Branch, who told him he went to use the bathroom and took his 9 mm. Springfield semiautomatic out of his hip holster and placed it beside the sink.
Altman said when he was putting the pistol back in the holster it went off, firing a round into the bathroom floor. Smithpeters said Altman told him he did not have his finger on the trigger and believes his shirt got bunched up in the trigger guard.
Smithpeters said there was damage to the floor where the bullet went through.
