KINGSPORT — A Kingsport man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his sister's boyfriend late Wednesday night.
Det. Martin Taylor with Kingsport police says the man was arrested for public intoxication while walking from the scene of the crime. Officers did not immediately realize he was the suspect in the stabbing, according to a police report, as the victim originally claimed he had been jumped by "two black guys."
Gary Blankenship, 46, of 201 E. Ravine Road, is held in the Kingsport city jail on charges of attempted second-degree murder. Police report he has no previous history of violent crimes.
Wednesday's stabbing is believed to have occurred in the 11 p.m. hour at 701 Birch Street. Taylor says the victim, Daniel Nolan, 47, and his girlfriend attempted to treat his injuries for more than an hour before calling 911. Police arrived to the home at 12:55 a.m., finding Nolan with a single stab wound to the abdomen.
