Kingsport crafts special zoning district for Ridgefields golf course

KINGSPORT — Kingsport’s planning department has created a new zoning district specifically for the Ridgefields golf course and nearby residential homes. The measure is being done basically to allow alcohol sales at the now-public restaurant at the club, but the city also says the new district protects the nearby residents in the future in case any major changes are proposed for the golf course.
Last year Stan Pace, owner of Gold Star Fitness, purchased the Ridgefields Country Club and golf course. Pace renamed the facility “The Club at Ridgefields,” kept the golf course and club private, but opened the restaurant up to the public.
And therein lies the dilemma.
