Planned Parenthood of Middle and East Tennessee has opened a new satellite health center in Johnson City.
Located at 409 E. Unaka Ave., the Planned Parenthood office is open to patients on Mondays from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., with the exception of all national holidays.
Carolynn Moore, a nurse practitioner based at PPMET’s Knoxville office, will run the new Johnson City center. Moore said the center’s services will include free pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease testing, and other services provided on an income-based sliding fee scale. Reduced rates will be available for teenagers.
Jeff Teague, PPMET president and CEO, said the Johnson City center “will provide the important, preventative health care that has made Planned Parenthood the most trusted name in reproductive health,” including cancer screenings, birth control, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, breast health services, Pap tests and sexual health education and information.
“We are excited to bring Planned Parenthood’s vital services to the Tri-Cities,” Teague said. “In these tough economic times, more women than ever need access to essential health care services. We look forward to working with other organizations in the community to expand access.”
Founded in 1965, PPMET is an affiliate of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Its mission is to provide high quality reproductive, sexual and complementary health care and education in an non-judgmental environment and to advocate for greater access to those services.
“Our clients rely on us for confidential, accurate and non-judgmental information and health counseling,” Teague said. “We are proud to open our doors in the Tri-Cities.”
Walk-in appointments are welcome or appointments may be scheduled by calling Planned Parenthood’s Knoxville office at 423-504-4447. More information about Planned Parenthood also may be obtained by calling the Knoxville office.
