Clinic to give free services over weekend

Free medical services will be available to anyone who needs them this weekend through a free mobile clinic stopping in Gray.

Remote Area Medical has provided more than $114 million in healthcare to 700,000 people across the country through the work of licensed dental, vision and medical professional volunteers. The clinic will be in Gray from Friday through Sunday at the Appalachian Fairgrounds.

Services available include dental cleanings, fillings, extractions and X-rays, eye exams, eyeglass prescriptions, free eyeglasses, women’s health exams and general medical exams.

RAM is the largest provider of free mobile clinics that deliver dental, vision and medical care to uninsured individuals. Volunteers expect to treat 1,000 patients over the three-day weekend.

“Americans are in dire need of dental and vision care,” RAM founder and president Stan Brock said. “No matter how much we talk about improving our healthcare system, unless we add vision and dental coverage, people in this country will continue to be in pain and suffering just because they don’t have access to a doctor or can’t afford one.”

Patient parking will be at the fairgrounds, and the clinic parking lot will open no later than midnight on Friday. Ticket distribution begins at 3 a.m., and patients will be seen in chronological order based on their ticket number when doors open at 6 a.m.

No identification is required to take part in the clinic.
