SoFFS to screen four acclaimed, limited-release films

The State of Franklin Film Society will host special, one-night-only screenings of four acclaimed limited-release films over the next four weeks.

All screenings will take place at Real to Reel Theaters, 130 W. Springbrook Drive, beginning at 7 each night, and the public is invited. Regular Real to Reel admission prices apply for the public, and SoFFS members will be admitted for $5.

&bull Oct. 15 — “Rudo Y Cursi,” a Spanish-language comedy featuring the re-pairing of “Y tu mama tambien” stars Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna in a tale about sibling rivals in professional soccer.

&bull Oct. 22 — “O’Horten,” a comedy from Norway about a life-changing experience for a 67-year-old train engineer.

&bull Oct. 29 — “Every Little Step,” a documentary following dancers as they audition for a Broadway revival of “A Chorus Line.”

&bull Nov. 5 — “Easy Virtue,” a British comedy from “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” writer-director Stephan Elliott about a young Englishman who marries a glamorous American (Jessica Biel.)

Following each screening, the society will facilitate an open commentary period for audience members to discuss the film and pose questions regarding the organization.

SoFFS officers also will be on hand to provide membership information and accept applications for new members. Membership is $35 per year for individuals and $60 for couples. Benefits include tickets to SoFFS events and discounts on film admission.

Since its founding this summer, the State of Franklin Film Society has brought Tri-Cities film fans more than a dozen limited-release projects, including independent features, underground films, documentaries and shorts.

SoFFS has grown to more than 75 members in a few months. The society is proud to be hosted by Real to Reel Theaters, a local, family-owned cinema.
