Theatre classes coming to downtown Johnson City

Contributed • Apr 22, 2014 at 5:20 PM

Theatre classes for young people will be offered in downtown Johnson City beginning in May.

The East Tennessee Young Actors Studio will conduct open houses and registration events at the Blue Moon Dinner Theatre, 215 E. Main St. from 5:30-7 p.m. April 28 and April 29. Students ages 5-18 are eligible.

Acting classes will begin the following week, also at the Blue Moon Dinner Theatre.

Classes are broken down by age groups, and they will meet once per week. Students will learn stage performance, theatre history, and team-building skills, while building confidence, creativity, and social skills.

Each class will meet for four months, and perform in a full-length play at the end of those four months. Every student who participates in classes will receive a speaking role in the performance. Students of all abilities and talents are encouraged to participate. The teachers have experience with children with special needs.

Classes for all age groups cost $40 per month or $37.50 per month if paid in advance for the entire term. There are no other costume or production fees.

Performance tickets will be $10, and parents will have the chance to earn complimentary tickets by volunteering to help with costumes and sets. A limited number of scholarships are also available, based on need.

For further information or early registration please contact Steve or Erin Schultz at the East Tennessee Young Actors Studio at 423-426-8682.
