Veterans deserve five-star quality care

Johnson City Press • Nov 2, 2017 at 12:00 AM

There’s good news and bad news when it comes to the quality of care being delivered at the four U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs facilities located here in Tennessee. The good news is the VA hospital at Mountain Home home has again been ranked as one of the best in the nation.

The (Nashville) Tennessean reported last week the Mountain Home facility has received four out of five stars in the department’s latest quality ranking of the system’s 150 hospitals.

The bad news is hospitals located in Nashville, Memphis and Murfreesboro are counted among the worst in the entire VA network. Those facilities, which have been cited for poor quality in previous rankings, each scored just one out of five stars.

Administrators at those hospitals say they have made improvements in recent months, but the rankings show their work is far from over. Our advice to them is to sit down with officials at Mountain Home to learn what they are doing right in providing care to veterans.

We also encourage the Mountain Home staff to step up its game, too. Veterans deserve five-star quality care in every VA facility in Tennessee.
