Block parties will take place beginning this weekend with the last taking place on July 16. All official Fun Fest block parties are free and open to the public.
Culligan of Tri-Cities has sponsored the event for 26 years and Michelle Martindale, manager of corporate administration, said it is a way to give back to the community.
"We've been here since 1947 and we wanted to give back to the community and we thought Fun Fest was a good way to do that, among other things," Martindale said.
The Midfield neighborhood will hold its block party Friday, July 4 at 5 p.m. at 580 Dillwyn St.
The Dale Street neighborhood will hold its block party Friday, July 4 at 6 p.m. at 957 Dale St.
Calvary Baptist Church Villagefest will take place Saturday, July 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1326 Pine St.
The Pactolus-Sullivan South neighborhood will hold its block party Saturday, July 5 at 11:30 at Pactolus United Methodist Church, 170 Pactolus Road.
The Center Street neighborhood will hold its block party Saturday, July 5 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at Power House Church.
The North John B. Dennis Highway community will hold its block party Saturday, July 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. at 2819 and 2817 John B. Dennis Hwy.
Wadlow Gap Ruritan Club will hold its block party Saturday, July 5 from 4 to 9 p.m. at 1422 Wadlow Gap Hwy., Gate City, Va. Activities will include a cornhole tournament and a Rook tournament in which the winning team of each will receive $100 and the runners-up will receive $50.
A big wand bubble table, a five hole miniature golf course and a high striker will be available for play. A prize will be given to the individual who can make the bell on the high striker ring the most consecutive times.
Children will be able to participate in a cupcake walk and have their faces painted. Adults can participate in a cake walk. Children can also enjoy Star the Clown's 60-foot obstacle course, Seaweed the Monster and a Tiny Tot Playland.
Hot dogs, snow cones and drinks will be available for all attendees. Weber City Fire Department will provide a fire truck for the event, and WTFM will provide music. Rick Dellinger will also perform at 7 p.m.
"The block party is just a way for us to give back to the community," said Janet Edwards, Wadlow Gap Ruritan Club president. "The block party is a way for everybody to have a fun day together."
A block party for seniors will be held July 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. on the first floor of the Kingsport Senior Center, 1200 E. Center St. Hot dogs with trimmings, chips, ice cream sandwiches and drinks will be provided with entertainment by Harry and JanRose Hall.
Indian Path Health Resources will hold its block party on July 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kingsport Town Center, 2101 Fort Henry Drive. Ice cream sundaes and family friendly live music will be provided.
Robert E. Lee Apartments will hold its block party July 10 from noon to 3 p.m. at 671 Dale St., Kingsport.
The Lynn Garden neighborhood will holds its block party July 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lynn View Community Center, 257 Walker St., Kingsport.
The Cooks Valley neighborhood will hold its block party July 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sunnyside Baptist Church, 406 Cooks Valley Road, Kingsport.
"It's a great time to reconnect with your neighbors and friends and family," Martindale said. "Fun Fest is such a good family event and the block parties are a good way to kick off. Some parties are part of the Fun Fest tradition."
