KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department summer program begins May 27 and runs through July 17.
The program is open to children ages 6-14 years old (must have completed kindergarten and turn 6 by Sept. 1). Participants are split into three groups based on age (6-8 years, 9-11 years, 12-14 years) during activities.
Activities include swim days, theme weeks, sport camps, art camps, educational clubs, special trips, and onsite activities and games.
Program sites are: V.O. Dobbins, Sr. Complex and Lynn View Community Center, 7:45 a.m.-5:15 p.m.; and Lincoln Elementary, Lee Apartments and Roosevelt Elementary, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
The cost of the program is $35 for city residents and $55 for non-city residents. Extended-hours sites are $75 for city residents and $95 for non-city residents.
To qualify as a city resident you must show verification of one of the following: child attends a city school; pay city taxes; or live within city limits (bring driver's license/report card).
All summer site registrations will be held at the V.O. Dobbins Sr. Complex, 301 Louis Street, on the following dates and times:
May 6, 3:30-6 p.m., for V.O. Dobbins, Sr. Complex (extended-hours site).
May 7, 3:30-6 p.m., for Lynn View Community Center (extended-hours site).
May 8, 3:30-6 p.m., for Roosevelt Elementary.
May 9, 3:30-6 p.m., for Lincoln Elementary.
May 20, 3:30-5 p.m., for Lee Apartments.
Open registration for city and non-city for any remaining spots will be held on May 20, from 3:30-6 p.m.
Each summer program site has a maximum registration limit and site availability cannot be guaranteed because participants are registered on a first-come, first-served basis.
