Tennessee's Oldest Town is turning up the heat for its annual Chili Cook-Off, set for Sun., Oct. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at the International Storytelling Center's Storytelling Park. Sponsored by the Jonesborough Area Merchants & Services Assoc., the event includes a variety of activities for the entire family, centered on the fundraiser's main attraction, a chili cook-off between regional competitors. Individuals and teams will compete for the coveted title of the best chili in Jonesborough with categories for Judge's Chili Champion, People's Choice and Best Booth Decorations. Spectators will have the opportunity to sample all competing chili for $5, free for children 10 & under, and cast a vote on their favorite chili and booth decor. Public voting will take place from noon to 3 p.m. as the winners will be announced prior to the end of the event at 4 p.m. A select panel of celebrity judges will also sample the chili and vote on the Chili Champion Award.
A family friendly chili joke contest will also take place during the event. Entries for the chili joke contest are free of charge. Contestants may pre-register or sign up on the day of the event.
Other activities to take place during the Jonesborough Chili Cook-Off include a children's area, family storytelling, craft vendors and live music from local artists.
Craft beer and other food items will also be available for purchase.A limited number of chili cook-off entries will be accepted through Oct. 4 for $20 and $10 for members of the Jonesborough Area Merchants & Services Assoc. Proceeds will benefit the Jonesborough Area Merchants & Services Assoc. and Jonesborough Area Ministerial Assoc.
