ELIZABETHTON—Beans, beans, beans.

There have been a lot of beans devoured during the past 46 years, as the Elizabethton Rotary Club has made its annual bean supper into one of the organization’s most important sources of revenue for the club’s many civic projects.

The consumption of beans should continue to go up this year, with the 47th Annual Elizabethton Rotary Club Bean Dinner. Joe Alexander, bean dinner chairman for the club, said 168 pounds of dry beans have been delivered to the kitchen of T.A. Dugger Jr. High School.

“That will make an awful lot of cooked beans,” Alexander said of the bounty of dry beans. In addition to the good meal, there will always be a lot of friends attending, to make it a night of socializing.

The beans will be cooked on Thursday, April 19, and dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. In addition to the beans, the good cooks at T.A. Dugger will be serving up all the trimmings, from onions to cabbage.

Alexander said there will also be plenty to choose from for dessert, from homemade items to baked goods.

The dinner will be held at the T.A. Dugger cafeteria. The school is at the corner of West E Street and Holly Lane. Tickets are $7 each and are available at the door or from club members or from T.A. Dugger students. Proceeds will benefit not only the club’s civic activities, but also T.A. Dugger.

Carry-outs are available, along with corn dogs and chips for children.
